One-on-One Mentoring

What is a mentor and what is expected?

Arizona Juvenile Courts projects by 2033 1,190,630 youth ranging from ages 8 to 17 will be or would have been involved in the Juvenile Justice System. As a result, Secure The Bridge Network strives to “Reducing Recidivism’ efforts to combat juvenile delinquency by matching a competent and caring adult with a youth in need. This match is crucial to the successful outcome of the mentoring program. Mentors are expected to make a positive impact in the life of mentees. Mentors are expected to be committed, consistent and encourage leadership in mentees. Mentors are expected to help build character and enhance life skills.

Process 

Who can be a mentor in Secure The Bridge Network Youth Mentoring Program?

To become eligible to mentor a mentee you must meet the following program requirements:

  1. Must be an adult (18 and older).
  2. Must have a valid social security card.
  3. Must be able to pass a state-required Background and Reference Check and Fingerprint Clearance. $30 background processing fee is do upon receipt of your application.
  4. In most cases, you must have available transportation, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if you drive.
  5. May not have been cited for a DUI in the past 2 years.
  6. May not have been involved in a violent crime or a crime against a child.
  7. May not have been charged with the use or distribution of illegal drugs within the past 2 years.

What is required?

  1. To meet with your mentee weekly at least 3 times each month.
  2. To spend an average of at least three hours with your mentee each week.
  3. To report regularly to our office. A form will be provided.
  4. To phone the office if problems arise or there are any questions.

What is the process?

  1. Be sure that you have read the information provided on this website.
  2. Fill out and submit the Mentor Application.
  3. Following our receipt of your application with the names of four references, you will be invited to attend a required orientation/training session.
  4. In the event you cannot attend, a private meeting will be arranged. After this meeting, you decide whether you want to continue to pursue becoming a mentor.
  5. After the training session, if you still decide to move forward in the process, you will be contacted for a personal interview with a staff member.
  6. At this point, you will sign the necessary form(s). Provided by Mentor Coordinator.
  7. If you have been approved/accepted. You will be matched with a youth.

To become eligible as a community volunteer with Secure The Bridge Network you must meet the following program requirements:

Must be 16 or older

Community Volunteers working directly with youth must be able to pass a Background, Reference Check and Fingerprint Clearance. $30 background processing fee is do upon reciept of application.
